Air dispersion modeling is a powerful tool which allows prediction of ambient air impacts associated with proposed or actual sources without incurring the expense of installing equipment or completing performance testing. Dispersion modeling is typically required to demonstrate pre-construction compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) before new source construction or modification. An important benefit of modeling is that multiple scenarios can be rapidly evaluated to allow for optimization of criteria such as stack heights, operational hours, production throughput quantities, acceptable permit conditions, and selection and design of control equipment, or equally traffic flows and emissions from roads and highways.

MSE is highly experienced with the selection and use of all industry standard stationary source air dispersion models including: the new generation models AERMOD and ADMS, as well as the older models SCREEN3, ISCST3, ISCLT3, PRIME and CALPUFF. MSE is also highly experienced in mobile source modeling using MOBILE and ADMS Roads to predict vehicle emission factors and CAL3QHC and ADMS Roads for predicting ambient impacts associated with vehicular traffic.
